6tablespoonsbarbecue saucedivided (I use Stubb’s Original)
1 ½ozshredded 2% milk sharp cheddar cheese
½teaspoonsalt
½teaspoonblack pepper
½teaspoongarlic powder
½teaspoonpaprika
4hamburger buns or sandwich rolls(I use Martin’s Potato Sandwich Rolls)
4leavesgreen leaf lettuce
4-8slicestomato
4-8slicesred onion
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, 2 tablespoons of the barbecue sauce, the shredded cheddar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Stir together with a fork until mixed. Form into four equal patties and place on a platter or cutting mat. Optional/Recommended: Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour to let the flavors meld and patties firm up.
When the burgers are ready to cook, lightly mist a nonstick grill pan or skillet with cooking spray and bring over medium heat. Place the burger patties on the pan (you may need to work in batches depending on the size of your pan) and cook for 5 minutes. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the burgers are cooked through.
To build each burger, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of a burger bun. Add the cooked burger patty and drizzle a tablespoon of barbecue sauce over the patty. Add a slice or two of tomato and red onion (if using), followed by the top of the burger bun.
