Berry “Green” Smoothie
When Ocean Spray approached me about making a smoothie recipe using their diet juice drinks, I was immediately on board. I already buy Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry Juice almost every time I go to the grocery store – it’s my favorite! They have a bunch of different varieties (Cran-Grape, Cran-Pomegranate, Cran-Cherry) and some Blueberry-based flavors as well, but my favorites are the straight cranberry version or the Cranberry with Lime (yum). It’s funny because my favorite thing to drink at home is half diet cranberry juice (sometimes with lime!) + half club soda over ice, but it turns out they also have a Sparkling Diet Cranberry drink. I guess I’ll try that next since it’s probably pretty close to what I’ve been making on my own – great minds think alike! The Diet Ocean Spray juice drinks only have 5 calories per serving, so it’s a great way to still get a fun, fruity drink without a ton of sugar and calories.
I’ve been meaning to post a “green monster” smoothie on my blog for quite a while. When Ocean Spray sent me a base recipe for their own Mixed Berry Smoothie I figured this was the perfect opportunity! You might be looking at the photos and thinking “where’s the green?” If you’re unfamiliar with the term, green monster smoothies contain a secret ingredient that contributes a bevy of healthy benefits and usually gives the smoothie a green color (the berry colors overpower the green in this one) without affecting its fruity flavor. What’s the secret ingredient? Spinach! Stay with me. Spinach is packed with vitamins, fiber and antioxidants and is also known to improve your vision, skin, bones, immunity, blood pressure and brain function. Need more convincing? If you haven’t done this before, spinach in a smoothie might seem crazy, but I promise all you’re going to taste is delicious fruit flavors from the juice, banana and frozen berries. Trust me! This Berry Green Smoothie is thick and smooth and packed full of fresh, fruity flavor. You can even make it your own by trying it with different Ocean Spray Diet Juice flavors for different flavor combinations. Which one is your favorite?

This looks delicious and healthy! I can’t wait to try it. Thanks again Emily for the time and effort you put into this amazing food blog.
Thanks Kim 🙂 I hope you like it!
Mmm I have a smoothie every day. I don’t think I’ve used Ocean Spray yet though- will try!
Let me know what you think, Katrina! 🙂
What would be a good substitute for the banana? Unfortunately I have a very low tolerance to them… :o(
Hm, another dense fruit…maybe cantaloupe or mango?
Thank you!!!
A pear is a great base for a smoothie too!
I also use avocados as a smoothie base! Higher in calories but they have all those good monounsaturated fatty acids.
Great ideas!
Interesting. I’ve used cran-grape Ocean Spray in smoothies before, never the diet version though. Something new to try I guess?
Definitely! Saves some sugar and calories and tastes just as good.
Does the Diet Ocean Spray have Aspartame or any of those fake sugars?
No aspartame, but I do believe it is sweetened with splenda.
I love making green smoothies…so much, I dedicate a blog to them: http://www.kellynoellerotterman.blogspot.com
My favorite uses a pear, red grapes, and any leafy green (but especially rainbow chard)! It’s so sweet! Add 1/2 slice pineapple for a little extra flavor.
Sounds yum, Kelly! I’m definitely planning to make more 🙂

I just made this…and it’s delish! I used strawberry banana yogurt. I’ll be making this regularly. Thanks, Emily!
Can you taste the spinach in this? I’m intrigued by the “green” smoothies, but have been too freaked out to try them so far.
Nope! Just tastes fresh and berry-like!
I have recently found your site and love the recipes, even this green smoothie. I have never tried the green ones, but going to make this :). I am on ww and have lost about 3st, with 1 st to go. I was looking for new recipes when i found your site. Thank you.
Emily, I have to tell you that I have never liked smoothies before. Really, I never have and the thought of a “green” smoothie seemed like it would be just as bad, but this… I have fallen in love with this berry smoothie! It’s easy, only 1-2 WW points and SO filling! Love it! Thanks so much!
