Berry Vanilla Power Shake

I gave myself this treat after Zumba yesterday and it was definitely a great reward after my workout. I wanted to try making a smoothie with my new immersion blender and I can’t recommend that kitchen tool enough – it blends things so quickly and easily with so little cleanup! I decided to put a protein shake together with ingredients I already had and this is what I came up with. I love Edy’s Slow Churned No Sugar Added Vanilla Ice Cream. It’s really diet-friendly, flavorful and versatile – I get creative with it a lot. This was a really delicious and creamy thick shake and it was very filling after my workout. I will make this again!

Berry Vanilla Power Shake

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Edy’s Slow Churned No Sugar Added Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1 cup berries, frozen or fresh (I actually had about ½ c fresh blueberries in my fridge, so I used those and ½ c frozen mixed berries)
  • ½ cup skim milk
  • Optional: 1 scoop vanilla flavored whey protein powder, I used Biggest Loser Designer Whey

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients into a blender OR into the mixing cup for an immersion blender and blend.
  • Pour into a glass and drink up!

Notes

MyWW SmartPoints per serving: (SP calculated using the recipe builder on weightwatchers.com)
Green: 12 SmartPoints/ Blue: 12 SmartPoints/ Purple: 12 SmartPoints
*Weight Watchers Points Plus:
4 per serving, 3 without protein powder* (P+ calculated using the recipe builder on weightwatchers.com)
*Since the fruit in this recipe is not cooked or modified in any way beyond being blended, I calculated the PointsPlus a little differently than I do my other recipes. For shakes/smoothies I've been told that the majority of people count the ingredients separately rather than using the WW recipe builder and having to account for the fruit's nutrition information. If you calculate these as a recipe, the shake is 7 or 5 pts+ respectively.

  1. It drives me crazy that WW hasn’t figured out a way to fix the Recipe Builder to not count fruits. I feel that they should change that software at the same time they change the plan. I’ve seen several responses from WW to this problem. I, too, just omit them, but I just feel like I’m cheating in a way. Oh well! Sounds delicious!

  2. It was delicious! 🙂

WW does it that way on purpose, so I don’t think they’re planning on changing it :/. The 0 pts+ value is only supposed to apply to fresh fruit in its original state (or fresh frozen) and if you cook it or change it in any way they start counting the points for it. I don’t mind it for normal recipes and actually when I first posted this shake I used the higher recipe builder p+ values, but I wasn’t sure how people calculated smoothies so I asked on the message boards and every response I got said they calculate the ingredients separately so I changed it. I feel a little bit like a cheater too, but it’s still fresh fruit, just blended, so I don’t know. I posted both sets of p+ values so that people could count it however they want. It’s confusing!

  3. I can’t seem to find the print or save button on some of these recipes like this one
