Cherry Apple Crisp
This easy Cherry Apple Crisp is the perfect blend of warm, juicy fruit and a crispy brown sugar and oat topping! I love this dessert in any season, but I always think of it around Father’s Day because fruit crisps and pies are my dad’s favorite treat. This Cherry Apple crisp is actually adapted from one of my dad’s favorite recipes that my mom makes. I lightened it up a bit, using less brown sugar, switching to light butter, and swapping in oats for flour, and it still turned out delicious! The fruit flavors shine and the topping has the perfect amount of sweetness. Plus, it makes the kitchen smell amazing while baking.
Not only is this Cherry Apple Crisp recipe easy to make and delicious to eat, but each serving (1/8th of the pan) is just 255 calories or 6 WW Points (or 10 Points if following the diabetic Weight Watchers plan)! To view your current WW Points for this recipe and track it in the WW app, click here!
Recipe Notes
- Serving Size: Eight servings made each one about 2/3 cup for me, but if your apples are a bit bigger or smaller your serving size may vary slightly. You can always eyeball about 1/8 of the dish to get your serving!
- Apples: I usually use Empire apples because that’s my favorite type so I usually have them on hand. You can use any variety that’s recommended for baking. If you use really large apples or really small apples you may want to adjust the quantity, but just make sure you have about three layers high of apple slices across the whole baking dish.
- Cherries: This recipe calls for a can of tart pitted red cherries packed in water. I always use Oregon brand because that’s what they carry in my local grocery stores, but it looks like lots of other brands offer the same product, including store brands at Kroger and Meijer. I find these by the canned pie filling in my grocery store.
- Light Butter: I use Land O’Lakes Light Butter with Canola Oil, which is a soft, spreadable butter found in a tub. It’s very easy to find in all my local grocery stores and I use it as a spread and also in a lot of recipes, so I always have it on hand. This product does not have to be softened to room temperature, because it is soft straight out of the fridge!
- Oats: I use old fashioned oats in all of my baked oatmeal recipes, so there is always a big container of these in my cupboard! Oats are zero points on the current Weight Watchers plan, so swapping them in instead of flour was an easy way to lower the WW Points for this recipe. Plus, I think a crispy brown sugar-oat topping gives a great contrast in texture to the soft, juicy fruit!
- Optional Topping: This recipe is delicious on its own, but I do think it’s even tastier with a little dollop of whipped cream (or whipped topping from a spray can) on top. It’s the perfect finishing touch!
Just the fruit, before adding the topping!
Before baking, with the brown sugar-oat crumble on top!

Cherry Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- 8 medium-sized apples, peeled and cut into slices (I used Empire apples)
- 12 oz can red tart pitted cherries in water, drained (I use Oregon brand)
- 1 cup uncooked old fashioned oats
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 6 tablespoons light butter, (I use Land O’Lakes Light Butter with Canola Oil spread in the tub)
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Spread the sliced apples across the bottom of an 8x13 baking dish in layers (mine made about three layers of apple slices). Sprinkle the drained cherries over the top of the apple slices.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and stir until thoroughly combined. Add the butter and stir together using a fork, a spoon, or clean hands until well combined. Sprinkle the oat mixture in chunks over the top of the fruit in the baking dish. Transfer to the heated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes until the apples are tender and the oat topping is golden brown. Serve with optional whipped cream if desired!
